Font exchange

Types of font exchange between libraries
If both libraries involved expect the possibility of a long-term and extensive exchange, a so-called flat-rate exchange is agreed. The libraries then swap continuously and without charge. Occasionally, the directory created for this purpose is used to check whether an approximate equilibrium has been reached. If a library wants a certain book, it does so in a single swap: one book for another book (regardless of book prices). With the so-called offsetting exchange, an account is kept for the value of the exchanged books and an exact balance is sought.
