Step diagram for slow waltz

A step diagram is the graphical notation of the steps of a dance .

It consists of stylized footprints that are connected with arrows and are often provided with corresponding abbreviations to identify the left and right foot in order to make them easier to read. Next to the arrows there are numbers that indicate the sequence of the movement to be carried out.

For couple dances, since both dancers usually perform different movements, two step diagrams are usually necessary. Step diagrams can often be found in ballroom dancing textbooks. Step diagrams can only be used to show the sequences of foot movements, which limits their use in show dance.
