They compensate for disabilities and / or prevent an impending disability. In the case of shoe finishing, the existing shoe is redesigned in such a way that certain foot complaints are compensated and / or alleviated by processing according to orthopedic specifications, e.g. B. splayfoot , buckle foot , flat foot , knee misalignment , equinus, etc.
A modification is possible with almost every ready-made shoe. However, an exact consultation with the orthopedic shoemaker or the orthopedic technology mechanic is always necessary. Depending on the clinical picture, a simultaneous supply of insoles is necessary in order to be able to achieve sufficient relief and / or correction.
In most cases, orthopedic shoe adjustments are covered by statutory health insurance . They are recorded and described in the list of aids and are stored in product group 31 shoes. The initial supply is usually limited to three pairs / pieces of adjustments. A follow-up supply is possible after six months and is limited to one pair / piece.
The orthopedic shoe adjustments are divided into four main groups:
