School enrollment

As school enrollment registration, the child is referred to in the respective school.

Since in Germany the cultural sovereignty lies with the federal states, there are differences in the individual federal states.

In parts of Germany, registration at schools is called enrollment and is only possible at schools in the region where you live. Depending on the type of school, this can be a different distance, in principle the following applies: the lower the type of school attended (e.g. elementary or secondary school; primary level ), the closer the school is to the place of residence; the higher it is (grammar school; secondary level ), the further can be the distances. Attending a private school , for example, is an exception .

Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Württemberg there are school districts only for elementary and secondary schools. In all other types of school, parents can freely choose a school, provided that the personal requirements are met and the school has sufficient capacity. However, the travel allowance will only be reimbursed on the basis of the cost of attending the nearest suitable school.

Efforts have recently been made to remove school districts for elementary and secondary schools so that parents can use the choice between different profiles.

At the end of elementary school, the educational recommendation of the elementary school or an entrance examination decides on further school options. A transition between the school types is also possible during the following years if certain requirements are met (educational recommendation or grade point average).

School enrollment in primary school

The parents register their child in the elementary school on a prescribed date. Before registering for school, a statement from the public health department is required that you are ready for school.

Enrollment at high school and secondary school

The requirements for attending these types of school differ from state to state, as do the entry class.

School enrollment in the secondary school

There are no special requirements for the Hauptschule .
