School district

The school district is a sub-unit of the school community in Switzerland . School groups exist mainly in cities with a larger population, such as Zurich , Bern or Winterthur .

Main tasks

  • Control of the development of the elementary school
  • Discussion and decision on strategic questions
  • Preparation and decision in the implementation of superordinate requirements
  • Establishing standards in schools and school circles
  • Decision on the allocation of resources to school districts and schools
  • Answering inquiries from the municipal council

School groups in the city of Zurich

Through the incorporation of several villages in 1893 and 1934, it was decided in 1933 to divide the city of Zurich into the five school districts Glattal , Limmattal , Uto , Waidberg and Zürichberg . In 1960 there was a reorganization of the school districts, combined with the division into seven school districts that is still valid today.
