Nominal charge

Products and publications are for a nominal fee (not to be confused with protection money ) emitted when the producer or distributor would make no market price. The nominal fee is i. d. Usually not cost-covering. It is an alternative to free delivery and gives the object of purchase that is otherwise to be given away a certain value. By charging a nominal fee, you can ensure that only people who have a deeper interest in something request it.

Protection fees are charged today by many public institutions , state bodies, educational and research institutions, associations and even private providers for certain documentation , tenders , judgments, collections of laws , publications , leaflets, advance payments and the like. In the mail order business it is also common to charge a nominal fee for extensive printed catalogs : The nominal fee charged is often offset against the purchase price for subsequent orders.

In Germany there is no legally binding definition of the term token fee. In fact, this is simply a purchase price for the purchase of something and not a fee in the strict sense. A cost recovery is not required for this.
