Protection community of German game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schutzgemeinschaft Deutsches Wild was a German association based in Bonn for the preservation, care and management of wild animals . The organization was founded shortly after the Second World War . Wolfgang E. Burhenne (1924–2017) was the board member until his death .

The Schutzgemeinschaft Deutsches Wild operated lobbying work by sending politicians statements on issues of environmental protection . This was done mainly with voluntary, professionally qualified staff and in cooperation with national and international organizations such as the Fund for Environmental Studies , the Environmental Law Center of the World Conservation Union ( IUCN ), the German Committee of the United Nations Environment Program ( UNEP ) and the Karl-Schmitz- Scholl Fund. Every year since 1992, the association has chosen a wild animal, which the public should draw attention to, as “ Animal of the Year ”.

In 2009 the protection community was dissolved as an association and transformed by Burhenne into a dependent foundation with the Elisabeth Haub Foundation as trustee. At the end of November 2016, Burhenne handed over responsibility to the German Wildlife Foundation , under whose roof the work of the German Wildlife Conservation Association will continue. In December 2016, the Animal of the Year 2017 was jointly chosen by the Protection Association of German Wildlife and the German Wildlife Foundation. Wolfgang E. Burhenne died in January 2017. Since then, the animal of the year has been chosen by the sponsors of the German Wildlife Foundation (for the first time in the election for animal of the year 2018).
