The Swabian wine wilt is a variety of sour cherries ( Prunus cerasus ). To this day, despite its modesty and special taste, it is largely unknown and not very widespread.

origin

The Swabian Wein Weichsel comes from the Dillingen district . This variety was mentioned by name for the first time in 1807. In 1967 there were still over 30,000 trees of this variety, today this variety is only found sporadically. This variety of sour cherry probably originated from seedlings and is a mixture of many types, some of which still exist today. The Swabian Wein Weichsel is a mixture of many types or mutations, some of which are still present today.

Overall, the tree is undemanding and also thrives in rough and higher altitudes.

The ripening takes place mostly in the 5th - 6th cherry week , in the district of Dillingen mostly around 10th - 15th July. When ripe, the fruits are dark red, slightly glassy, ​​medium to small, stocky and juicy. The kernels can be easily removed from the pulp. The cherry is very juicy and has an aromatic taste that is reminiscent of fruity jam , sometimes also slightly reminiscent of cinnamon. Fresh from the tree and undamaged, this aroma is mostly covered by intense acidity. If the fruit is pressed lightly, the acidity will noticeably decrease after a few minutes and the aroma will be released.
