Crushes
Raptures is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 253). The work was performed for the first time on April 1, 1861 in the Dianabad Hall in Vienna.
Remarks
The work was composed as a pure concert waltz in the summer of 1860 during the composer's trip to Russia in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg and dedicated to the Russian composer, pianist and conductor Anton Rubinstein . The name Enthusiasm refers to his admiration for Rubinstein, about whom he raved. The first performance took place on April 1, 1861 in Vienna. Johann Strauss built the waltz like a symphony ( symphony in three-quarters time ). However, he met with little understanding from the audience with this work. As a result, the work disappeared from the concert schedule. Strauss no longer referred to later symphonic waltzes of this type as concert waltzes.
The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 12 minutes and 5 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can vary by up to about a minute plus or minus.
