Schwarzenburg

The Schwarzenburg , also castle Schwarzenberg called, is a Outbound hilltop castle on the hill south of the district Haan Lockweiler (To the old castle) of the city of Wadern in the district of Merzig-Wadern in Saarland .

The castle was built around 1170, about 100 years before the more famous Dagstuhl Castle , and was first mentioned in a document in 1192 as "Castro Swarzinberch" and probably played a role in the centuries-long battles between the Duchy of Lorraine and the Electors of Trier .

The Burgstall (castle site) still shows small remains of the wall and several trenches . The "Haankapelle", which was built in 1837 by the Lasalle von Louisenthal family, stands at the height of the former core castle .

In the pond west below the castle stables there are still a number of hewn stones from the former facility when the water is low.
