Memphis monorail

Memphis, Tennessee, at the visitor center

The Memphis monorail (also Mud Island Monorail , Mud Island Monorail ) has been connecting downtown Memphis with the amusement park on Mud Island since 1982 . It is located under a footbridge over the Mississippi River .

The 518 meter long suspension track is used by two cars, each with its own mobile beam. The two cars are moved by cable pulls, similar to funiculars and cable cars . Due to the narrow width of the bridge, vehicles can only meet in the middle of the bridge. There is an alternative point there . In contrast to the similarly constructed suspension railways in Wuppertal and Dresden , the system in Memphis uses rubber running wheels. In addition, like the H-Bahn , it has no drivers , but is controlled from a central control center . The travel time is two minutes.

In the film The Company , Mitch McDeere ( Tom Cruise ) uses the overhead conveyor on his escape.
