Swiss Charter for Psychotherapy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Charter for Psychotherapy is a conference of further training institutions and professional associations for the field of psychotherapy in Switzerland. It is also an organ of the Association of Swiss Psychotherapists (ASP).

It goes back to the years 1989–1991, when a conference of leading Swiss psychotherapeutic training institutions worked out a consensus on the content, training, science and ethics of psychotherapy in the form of the "Swiss Charter for Psychotherapy", which in 1993 was composed of 27 training institutions, specialist and Professional associations was signed. Since then, the agreements have been continuously developed and implemented in democratic processes. On January 24, 1998, the conference took on the legal form of an association. As of January 1, 2014, the Charter merged with the ASP and continues to perform the same tasks as before in the structures of the ASP as a conference of further training institutions and professional associations .

In 2002 the Charter submitted a declaration on the scientific nature of psychotherapy procedures. The tension between the need to make generalizable statements and the fact of the uniqueness of the respective patient, therapist and the given therapeutic situation is emphasized.

The aim of the Swiss Charter for Psychotherapy is quality assurance and further development of psychotherapy by striving for serious psychotherapy methods with high training standards. Only institutions and procedures that have been evaluated can become members of the Charter, and compliance with the agreements is checked periodically. A scientific commission and a commission for quality assurance perform these tasks.

The charter sees the growing variety of methods as an enrichment, it enables different people to have access to psychotherapy. It is therefore also enriching that people with different scientific first-time professions become psychotherapists and contribute to the further development of the discipline.
