Swiss Lexicon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Lexicon is a reference work that was edited by Wilhelm Ziehr in view of the 700th anniversary of the Confederation from 1991 onwards.

The Swiss Lexicon was published by the “Verlag Schweizer Lexikon Mengis + Ziehr” in Lucerne . From 1991 to 1993 it appeared in six volumes as "Schweizer Lexikon 91". In 1998 and 1999 it was “reprinted in a twelve-volume popular edition”.

According to its own declaration, the Swiss encyclopedia contained “a portrait in 85,000 keywords: Switzerland from a Swiss perspective.” Three quarters of the content relates to Switzerland, a quarter to the rest of the world.

A lexicon with the same title was published between 1945 and 1948.
