Ferdinand Mengis

Ferdinand Mengis (born March 6, 1927 in Lucerne ; died October 26, 2014 there ) was a Swiss publisher who ran Mengis Druck und Verlag AG in Visp in the canton of Valais . He was particularly well known in public as the publisher and editor of the Walliser Bote .

Ferdinand Mengis founded the Swiss Lexicon publishing house together with Wilhelm Ziehr . From 1991 to 1993 they published a six-volume Swiss lexicon , which was re-published in 1998/99 as a twelve-volume paperback edition in a new edition. The lexicon contains around 85,000 articles by 2,300 authors.

In addition, Ferdinand Mengis shaped the publishing and printing activities in Wallis beyond the local public, so that, as co-owner of Rotten Verlag, he enabled the publication of over 300 books in 40 years.

His company, run by the third generation, employs more than 230 people in the largest printing company in Upper Valais (as of 2014).
