Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences ( SATW ) is a science academy with a technical focus in Switzerland .

history

SATW was founded in 1981 with headquarters in Zurich. This makes it the youngest of the four Swiss scientific academies.

Purpose and organization

The SATW supports and networks the technical sciences regionally, nationally and internationally. With forums and platforms, the academy approaches issues in an interdisciplinary manner or strengthens the national and international network of disciplines. The academy also coordinates science within the Swiss university landscape or works with research funding institutions such as the CTI Commission for Technology and Innovation.

The SATW is a member of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences and an umbrella organization of over 50 associations and institutions from all technical fields as well as around 350 individual members.

The board of directors plans and leads the activities of the academy and maintains a permanent office. A scientific advisory board (WBR) advises the board of directors in matters of science policy and in planning the academy's activities. The members of the board and the WBR are elected by the general assembly. The academy sets up working groups in individual subject areas.

The current president is Willy R. Gehrer; General Secretary is Rolf Hügli.
