The Swiss Bankers Association (SBA; French Association suisse des banquiers (ASB) , Italian Associazione svizzera dei banchieri (ASdB) , Romansh Associaziun svizra dals banchiers (ASdB) , English Swiss Bankers Association ) is the umbrella association of banks in Switzerland and other credit institutions thus of the entire Swiss financial center .

The SBA represents the interests of Swiss banks vis-à-vis business, politics, authorities and the general public. Its main goals are to maintain and promote optimal and competitive framework conditions for the Swiss financial center at home and abroad.

It was founded in 1912 in Basel .

Organizational matters

Herbert J. Scheidt , Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Vontobel AG and Vontobel Holding AG , has been Chairman of the Board of Directors since September 2016 . Jörg Gasser has been the Chairman of the Executive Board since May 2019 . The registered office and office are in Basel.

The SBA was founded as an association in Basel in 1912 and unites almost 300 member institutes and 12,000 individual members. In four business-oriented steering committees and seven specialist commissions, around 500 representatives of the member banks deal with the most important questions and topics of the financial center. They are supported by around 55 employees (full-time equivalents) at the SBA office. Swiss Bankers' Day, the SBA's general assembly, takes place every autumn.

The association sees itself as representing the interests of banks vis-à-vis government agencies in Switzerland and abroad. In consultation with the Swiss Financial Market Authority , it develops the sector's self-regulation . The SBA advocates an open dialogue with a critical public and promotes the global image of the Swiss financial center. She is committed to entrepreneurial freedom of action and open markets.

The SBA promotes the training of young bankers as well as the information and exchange of experience among bank employees. It advises its members and coordinates the joint ventures of the Swiss banks.
