history

The association was founded on January 24, 1837. A prominent founding member was the Graubünden civil engineer Richard La Nicca . Today the association has around 15,000 members. From 1877 the association issued a fee schedule that forbade members to work below a fixed tariff.

Until 2001, membership of the association was reserved exclusively for graduates of the Federal Technical Universities .

Magazines

An important club activity has always been the publication of a club journal. From 1874–1882 it was called Die Eisenbahn , followed by the Swiss construction newspaper , which is very important for Swiss architectural history . After an interlude from 1979–2000 as a Swiss engineer and architect , the magazine is now called Tec21 .

Financing the magazines was and is always a problem in small Switzerland. The association tried to solve it with a compulsory subscription, which, especially in the past, when membership was very important for a Swiss engineer, repeatedly caused displeasure.
