The word callus denotes

  • in medicine a coarse, more or less extensive scar , especially the callus ;
  • in the plant genus Ampfer (Rumex), nodular-hard, cartilage-like thickenings on the inner tepals, the valves ;
  • In the orchid genus Oncidium, the bulbous elevation of the base of the flower lip;
  • in male amphibians, especially many frogs, a horny thickening that occurs during spawning time, especially on the inside of the fingers, see estrous callosity .
