concept

In 2016, the Piesteritz nitrogen works opened its own science center on the market square. The basic idea of the futurea is to bring the essential importance of nitrogen for all life on earth closer to the public. This is done using interactive exhibition objects that trias realized on film.

The museum building at Markt 25 includes two historical monuments from the early 16th century. The buildings are assigned to the Renaissance style . After a complete renovation and gutting of the old buildings, which had largely fallen into disrepair, the history of the residents at the time the house was built (at the time of Martin Luther ) is presented in the exhibition on the first floor and didactically linked to the museum's core scientific topics. Two more floors deepen the meaning and use of nitrogen in technology and economy and raise questions about the social and natural effects of nitrogen production and use. Located on the western corner of the market square in the center of the old town, the museum is positioned exactly at the intersection of the city's two main axes (Schlossstrasse and Juristenstrasse). With its scientific orientation as a window of industrial culture, it embodies a second cultural and historical pillar of Wittenberg in addition to the history of the Reformation .
