history
Scientific Games was founded in 1973 and in the same year introduced the world's first scratch card . Until 2000, the manufacture of equipment for the sale of scratch cards was the sole mainstay of Scientific Games, but in that year the company was taken over by the Autotote Corporation, a manufacturer of hardware and software for the organization of horse betting . Although Autotote was the acquiring company, the merged company was renamed Scientific Games Corporation a year later. In 2002 Scientific Games was the focus of the media in the wake of a betting scandal. Three employees managed to manipulate betting through their access to the company's software for use in horse races and thus have around 3 million US dollars paid out. WMS Industries has been part of Scientific Games since 2013 and Bally Technologies since 2014 , both manufacturers of slot machines.
