Scorpioni

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Scorpioni (German: Skorpione) were a small group of English women who lived in Florence in the 1930s and 1940s , where they primarily wanted to build a cultural bridge between Great Britain and Italy . They were so named because they were thought to have a teasing sense of humor.

In Florence they stayed mainly in the Café Doney and the Uffizi . When Italy under Mussolini declared war on Great Britain and France on June 11, 1940, the Scorpioni were brought from Florence to San Gimignano , where they were under arrest until the end of the war.

The Scorpioni were particularly well received through the film Tee with Mussolini by the Italian director Franco Zeffirelli .
