Scots
The Scots ( lat. Scot (t) i ) were a Celtic tribe in Ireland . From the 3rd to the 5th century they carried out raids in Northern Britain and finally settled there ( Dalriada ).
From the 5th century they were Christianized and developed the Irish Scottish Church . In the early Middle Ages , Irish Scottish wandering monks were a mainstay of the mission on the European mainland ( Irish Scottish Mission ).
The Scottish King Kenneth MacAlpin († 858), son of a Scot and a Pictin , united his kingdom of Dál Riata with that of the Picts in 843 and gave the northern part of Britain the name Scotland .
