life and career

Sean Hepburn Ferrer was born in Lucerne in 1960 to Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer . He grew up in Switzerland, Italy and the United States.

He initially worked in the film industry and worked on the planning, production and marketing of films. Among other things, he was involved in the shooting of films such as Inchon , Dead Get No Mail or Strangers Kiss , as Assistant Director .

After his mother's death in 1993, he took time off and founded The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund in 1994 with Robert Wolders , his mother's last significant other , and his half-brother Luca Dotti, which continues Audrey Hepburn's humanitarian work. Among other things, Hepburn Ferrer went on a worldwide tour with the Timeless Audrey exhibition to raise money for the foundation. From 1994 to 2012 he served as chairman of the foundation until he handed this role over to his half-brother. In February 2017, the Hollywood for Children Foundation filed a lawsuit against Hepburn Ferrer with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that he had been hindering the Foundation's work for several years for financial reasons. In turn, Sean Hepburn Ferrer filed a lawsuit against the foundation in October 2017; this is not entitled to the continuous worldwide use of Audrey Hepburn's name, but only in individual cases after approval by him. Since Luca Dotti did not join the lawsuit, it was rejected in March 2018. In October 2019, Judge David Sotelo at the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that Hollywood for Children was not authorized to use the trademark rights to the name Audrey Hepburn without the consent of both sons.

From 2014 to 2018, Hepburn Ferrer was also the annual Rare Disease Days Ambassador .

In 2001 he made the documentary Racehoss about Albert Race Sample, who turned to writing as a convicted criminal in prison and later helped other prison inmates to return to normal lives. Hepburn Ferrer directed and produced the film.

In 2003 he published a biography of his mother, which a year later was also translated into German as Audrey Hepburn: Melancholie und Grazie. Memories of a son appeared.

Hepburn Ferrer was married to Marina Spadafora from 1985 until they divorced in 1989. The second marriage to Leila Flannigan from 1994 to 2000 had a daughter, who later became model Emma Ferrer .
