Robert Wolders (born September 28, 1936 in Rotterdam , South Holland Province , † July 12, 2018 ) was a Dutch actor .

Life

Wolders began his acting career in 1965 with a guest appearance on an episode of the television series Flipper . The following year he made his feature film debut in the adventure film Three Foreign Legionnaires alongside Telly Savalas and Leslie Nielsen . In 1967 he played on the side of Rock Hudson and George Peppard in the war film Tobruk . In the same year he got the role of Erik Hunter in the second season of the western series Laredo ; however, this was discontinued after the end of the second season. As a result, he had other guest appearances in series such as Solo for ONCEL and In love with a witch . In 1973 he played Merle Oberon's younger lover in the feature film Interval ; two years later he married the actress, who was 25 years his senior, and retired from the acting business.

After the death of his wife in 1979, he was from 1980 the partner of Audrey Hepburn , who divorced Andrea Dotti in 1981. From then on both lived together in Rome and Tolochenaz and raised Hepburn's son Luca together . Wolders also accompanied Hepburn on her travels for UNICEF and stayed by her side until her death in 1993. In 1994 he founded The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund with their sons Sean Hepburn Ferrer and Luca Dotti, which continues Audrey Hepburn's humanitarian work.

He later moved to Rochester , where he looked after his mother. Between 1994 and 1995 he was in a relationship with Leslie Caron . From 1995 until his death, Wolders was in a relationship with Shirlee Fonda (* 1932), the widow of actor Henry Fonda .
