The longship in Roskilde

The Havhingsten fra Glendalough (English: Sea Stallion from Glendalough ) is a reconstruction of the Skuldelev 2, one of the Skuldelev ships . The original ship was built near Dublin around 1042 .

The Havhingsten (German: Seehengst) was built at the shipyard of the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde from 2000 to 2004. It is 30 m long and 3.8 m wide.

The ship is used for research purposes.

Research trip to Dublin 2007

A "return trip" to Dublin took place in July and August 2007. Due to a lull, the ship was towed through the North Sea, but then continued its journey without assistance. The ship left the port of Roskilde on July 1st and reached Dublin on August 14th just before 2pm local time.

The logs and diaries of the captain, the cook, the boatswain and the nurse can be found on the project website.

The ship was in the National Museum of Ireland from August 17, 2007, where it was exhibited until its return to Denmark in the summer of 2008.

The British television broadcaster BBC Two broadcast a documentary about the expedition in its history program Timewatch on January 5, 2008.

After the ship arrived in Ireland, two stamps with the motif of the Sea Stallion were issued by the Irish Post. One is worth 55 cents and the other is worth 3 euros.

There is also a series of lectures at the Irish National Museum from October 2007 to June 2008 organized by the Roskilde Ship Museum.
