Operation Oregon was a "search and destroy" mission of the 1st US Cavalry Division in Quang Ngai Province

Search and Destroy , Seek and Destroy or S&D for short (German: Search & Destroy ) describes a military tactic that was used by the US armed forces in the Vietnam War , among other things . The tactic was also used by US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq .

The aim of the tactic is primarily to destroy the forces of the enemy and not to control an area. With this tactic, the enemy target is first tracked down, then in a second step an attempt is made to destroy it completely.

The implementation of the tactic requires the rapid deployment of airborne infantry into enemy territory. The body count served as a key figure for the success of the tactic .
