The seaman's club Rügen-Anker is a seaman's club of the German seaman's mission Sassnitz founded in August 1994 . It is located in the Sassnitz -Mukran ferry port .

history

At the initiative of the pastor at the time, Thurid Pörksen, a seaman's mission was launched in Sassnitz as early as 1994. Until mid-May 2013, the Grundtvighaus in the port city was the port of call for seafarers. For financial reasons, the association had to stop working, but with the support and help of local companies and donors, the seaman's mission was reactivated in 2016. The former customs clearance rooms have been made available free of charge by the ferry port company since then. As the original rooms quickly became too small, the seaman's club moved into larger rooms in the same building.

Club work

Of the 40 or so members of the Sassnitz Seamen's Mission, about 13 are volunteers in the club, and internships are possible. The helpers are involved in the work in the club, but also in the on-board service and the transport service for the seafarers to and from the ships. In addition to the regular opening times, there are also other opening times for the crew of cruise ships.

From the reopening of the club in 2016 to August 2019, around 9,000 guests have been looked after in the Sassnitz Seaman's Club and through visits on board.

Furnishing

In the club there is a lounge with billiards, dart board, table tennis, games, musical instruments, WiFi and a kiosk for drinks and international newspapers, as well as telephones for contacting home and a small library. In the multi-religious "Room of Silence" there are Bibles in different languages, icons are on an altar for Orthodox Christians, small Buddha statues for the Buddhists, and on one wall there is the Koran and a prayer rug for the Muslims.
