Sefarad (music group)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sefarad was a Turkish-Jewish musical group. The name is derived from Sefarad , an Old Testament country name that was later used for Spain, and alludes to the Sefardim , the descendants of the Jews who were expelled from Spain in 1492.

The group existed from 1996 to 2007 and was founded by three people. Sami Levi the soloist, Cem Stamati the bassist and Ceki Benşuşe the guitarist of the group. In 2003 the band released their first album "Sefarad". In 2005 her second album "Sefarad II" came out. This album was in the Turkish top ten for a long time. The songs Osman Aga , Ne fark eder? , Yastayım , Ben Seni Severim , Vakti Geldi , Aşk İçin and Seni Ne Çok Sevdiğimi achieved great popularity in Turkey. The albums are bilingual in Ladino and Turkish . Thanks to the Sefarad group, the almost forgotten Ladino songs became famous all over Turkey.
