Segodunum (Aquitania)
Segodunum ( Greek Σεγόδουνον ; later called Ruthena civitas ) was the main town of the Rutener , a Celtic tribe in southern Gaul .
The place was at the place of today's Rodez ( Département Aveyron ) in the Massif Central in the south of today's France in the Roman province of Gallia Aquitania on the northern border of the province of Gallia Narbonensis . Archaeological remains from Roman times include an amphitheater and an aqueduct . A systematic exploration of the city, which was located on a hill above the Aveyron , was not possible due to the modern development. Isolated finds, especially ceramics, indicate a settlement from the 1st century BC. BC to the 4th century AD
Segodunum is listed in the Tabula Peutingeriana and in the Geographike Hyphegesis .
