Annaba cable car

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Annaba cable car is a gondola that connects the western outskirts of the Algerian coastal town of Annaba with the suburb of Seraïdi, 850 m above sea level on the Djebel Edough, which is otherwise only accessible via a 13 km long winding mountain road. It forms part of Annaba's local public transport system and an important relief for the road connection. It offers a wide view over the city and the bay of Annaba.

The first cable car was built by Poma in 1987 , but had to be closed in 1991 due to the Algerian civil war . A private concessionaire managed to operate it again between January 1997 and May 1999, until various disputes again led to its termination.

In September 2008, the gondola lift, which was completely renovated by Poma, was reopened, with the Entreprise du métro d'Alger (EMA) acting as the builder and client. It is operated by ETA - Entreprise de transport de Annaba, the municipal transport company of Annaba.

The 4 km long gondola runs in only one section over 32 supports to the mountain station ( 36 ° 54 ′ 38.4 ″  N , 7 ° 40 ′ 51.9 ″  E ). She has a total of 68 Diamond type cabins in blue with a yellow roof.
