Aerosols and similar mixtures are classified in secondary explosives . The effect of the detonations is being investigated in Germany by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), which also classifies according to the dangerous goods classes.

The results are incorporated into the Hazardous Goods Ordinance for Roads and Railways and the Hazardous Goods Ordinance by Sea , where they are legally binding.
