from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mannsmade , also Mannsmad or Mannsmahd, was a measure of area in the Free State of the Three Leagues in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley and in Württemberg . In the rest of Switzerland it was widely known as Mannwerk and increasingly equated with Juchart . The term Tagewerk or Tagwans is typologically related .

The measure referred to an area of meadow that is so large that a man can mow it in a day, i.e. around 20 ares (2000 m²).

Two different values marked the measure.

The old man made

  • 1 man made = 600 square fathoms

The new man made

  • 1 man made = 600 square fathoms.

In Stuttgart the measure corresponded to 1 ½ acres or 576 square rods .
