Christoph Gottlieb Wend

Christoph Gottlieb Wend (also Wendt) (* in Lausitz ; † November 1745 ; pseudonyms: Selimantes , Selamintes ) was a German writer , librettist and translator .

Life

His life took him from Lausitz to Hamburg, where he presumably also died. He wrote libretti for several operas by Georg Philipp Telemann , e.g. B. Flavius ​​Bertaridus, King of the Longobards and Emma and Eginhard or the burden of love. Wend wrote German recitatives for some of the operas by George Frideric Handel that were put on the program at the Hamburg Opera am Gänsemarkt (e.g. Rodelinda, regina de 'Longobardi ), while the arias remained untranslated. He also created the first German translation of Gulliver's Travels .
