Semicastration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As semicastration ( semi = half, so half castration ) is defined as the removal of a single gonad (ie one testicle in men or ovary in women). It is typically applied to the relevant organs in cancer cases . It can also be used for testicular torsion that is treated too late . Since only one of the two organs is affected, the sexual function of the person concerned is preserved. She can continue to have offspring or beget children.

Semicastration in women is, in accordance with the rarity of ovarian cancer, significantly less common than in men.

In testicular cancer , the operation is performed inguinally , i.e. through a groin incision, instead of opening the scrotum . This removes a longer part of the spermatic cord and significantly reduces the risk of metastases .
