Semi-catamaran

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A semi- catamaran is a type of shipbuilding that is a hybrid between a monohull and a catamaran .

In the semi-catamaran, the two outer hulls are firmly connected by a flat part of the hull arranged between them. This connecting area of the hull also plunges into the water and thus contributes to buoyancy. In the case of a catamaran, the connecting components of the hull are above the waterline.

State of the art

In 2003, the Research Institute for Inland Shipbuilding published publications on their investigations into the design of semi-catamarans in inland navigation.

Examples

Two early representatives of this design are the two inland ro-ro ships Han Tervel and Han Asparuh , which were built in 1982 in the Deggendorf shipyard .
