Kaunas transmitter

The transmitter Kaunas (lit. Kauno radijo stotis ) was the first broadcasting station in Lithuania . He was in Kaunas , in the Žaliakalnis district .

history

In 1910, technical measures were used to develop information transmission and reception of radio waves . The communications unit of the Imperial Russian Army built a 1.5 kW radio telegraphic Telefunken station in a fort of the Kaunas fortress . The Lithuanian Army began using the station on July 9, 1919. Specialists who had returned from abroad worked in this telegraphic station and had acquired the experience and knowledge of professionals there.

In 1923 the company “ Société française radio-électrique ” (SFR) from France built a new station in Žaliakalnis, on the Vytautas mountain hill. In 1925 broadcasting began (test release). From 1938 to 1940 the English company “ Standard Telephones and Cables Ltd” built a new radio station.

In 1950 the Sitkūnai transmitter took over the function of the old radio station.
