Senga Sengana is a variety of the garden strawberry ( Fragaria × ananassa ), bred by Reinhold von Sengbusch in Wulfsdorf near Hamburg and has been on the market since 1952. The parent strains are 'Markee' and 'Sieger'. Senga Sengana was the first strawberry variety that was suitable for freezing. It was one of the most widely grown strains in commercial cultivation in the 1960s and 1970s. Today it is mostly used for the home garden or for self-pickers.

plant

The vigorous plant forms a flat, spherical eyrie made of dark green leaves and has many runners. The flowers that appear late remain under the foliage. You are self-fertile. The yield of the relatively early ripening fruits is high at first, but decreases as the plants stay on the field for a long time. 'Senga Sengana' is very sensitive to fruit rot, but otherwise it is a very robust variety.

fruit

The fruits that ripen first are medium-sized, later they become smaller. Their shape is conical, the color shimmering purple-red on the outside, and slightly uneven red tones on the inside. The taste is - depending on the weather - mostly good. Since the goblet sticks firmly, they can only be picked well with this one.
