Vehicle display

The vehicle lineup describes the way how a vehicle is placed in a parking space. Depending on the angle of installation, a distinction is made between three types of installation. The installation angle α is measured between the lane axis and the parking space . The legal basis in Germany are the recommendations for systems for stationary traffic ( EAR ).

Types of vehicle placement

Longitudinal installation (according to § 12 StVO)

In the case of longitudinal installation, parking is parallel to the road (in accordance with Section 12 of the StVO ). The vehicles reach the parking space directly from the lane and can park backwards or, if there is enough space, forwards and drive out forwards or backwards. The u. Any parking markings that may have been applied must be observed, as otherwise there is a violation of Section 12 (6) of the StVO. This vehicle installation is the most common type of installation on roads.

Inclined installation

An angle of installation between 50 and 90 gon (45 ° and approx. 81 °) is called an inclined installation . The vehicle can enter the parking lot forwards, but must reverse again to exit. This setup is often used for parking lots , as it enables narrower driveways than vertical setup and better space utilization than parallel setup . It is only permitted with appropriate markings, as otherwise it would violate Section 12, Paragraph 4 of the StVO.

Horizontal installation

The transverse installation (sometimes incorrectly called vertical installation) has an installation angle of 100 gon (90 °). Here the vehicle can enter either forwards or backwards. In the case of wide street spaces, the possible parking space is well filled, but the parking maneuver hinders the flow of traffic and can lead to accidents . This setup is more likely to be found on side streets and in parking lots. Here, too, Section 12 (4) of the StVO must be observed, i.e. H. the corresponding markings or signs must be present so that parking can be carried out in this way.

Block parking

So-called block parking is less well-known, in which the parking stands are put together in small blocks and arranged alternately along the sidewalk. This arrangement is suitable for calming traffic on a street, since the tramline forms an offset and the driving speed is effectively reduced in this way. Trees or seating can be arranged within the parking blocks.
