history

The first SOS Telefonische Hulpdienst office was established in Rotterdam in 1958 . In the years that followed, a number of bases were established one after the other in the country up to the current number of 26 (mostly in the vicinity of the big cities). In 2008 it was renamed to its current name, an artificial word made up of " sensitivity " and "ear" ( Dutch : oor ). The foundation is run by a small number of paid employees (head office, management, trainers / guides and administration), supplemented by the large number of trained and certified volunteers who hold discussions by phone, chat and email.

tasks and goals

Volunteers are available by phone (0900-0767) and during the day by email or chat. The aim is to “be a first aid for people with social or psychological problems; Sensoor does not pursue any commercial goals. "

The conversations are a first point of contact for acute (psychological) problems. These include: relationship problems, dealing with death, depression , self-discovery problems , but also eating disorders or self-harming behavior . The volunteer helpers are usually not experts, but are trained and trained to show those seeking help ways of understanding themselves and helping. At Sensoor, full anonymity is guaranteed.
