Our Army at War

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Our Army at War (translated: Our army in the war ), often called OAaW abbreviated, is the title of a comic book series , the US-American publisher DC Comics published from 1952 to 1977 (# 1 to 301). The subsequent editions in the years 1977 to 1988 ran under the name of the title hero Sergeant Rock (# 302 to 422). The end of the war comic, which was no longer up-to-date and in which partly realistic, partly extremely improbable war stories were told, was discontinued due to declining sales.

production

Long-time editor and lead author of the series was the American author Robert Kanigher . The draftsmen who visualized the OAaW included Carmine Infantino , Joe Kubert , Neal Adams and Irv Novick .

Content

The characters Our Army at War was about included the tough Sergeant Rock and the "All American hero" GI Joe .

A surprising feature of OaAW - given the title of the series - were the adventures of the German fighter pilot Hans von Hammer , which appeared under the title Enemy Ace from issue # 151 (February 1965) as backup stories in the series for a few months.
