Sergei Ivanovich Ognev
Sergei Iwanowitsch Ognjow (* 5th November July / 17th November 1886 greg. In Moscow ; † 20 December 1951 ibid), mostly transcribed as Ognev in the scientific literature , was a Soviet mammalogue . He is considered the founder of the "Moscow School" of theriology .
Life
In 1910 Ognjow finished his studies, in 1928 he became a professor. The Russian Academy of Sciences commissioned him in 1913 with the shrew family to publish the "Fauna of Russia", which could not be printed until the end of the Russian Civil War. From 1922 until his death he worked on a monograph on the mammals of the Soviet Union, which remained unfinished after seven volumes.
