Seriem has been part of the Neuharlingersiel community in the Esens community since 1968 . The district is located about 13 kilometers north-northwest of Wittmund at heights between 0.5 and 1.5  m above sea level. NN . There is no historical place called Seriem. Rather, the name denotes an area. It is characterized by many small places, which consist of groups of houses or courtyards but also individual buildings and were mostly built on warps. The area was first mentioned in documents in 1491 as in deme Seryme . The name was derived from Serima , which is a combination of the Old Frisian term for lake, sea and rima for edge. Seriem means, derived from it, located on the coast .
