Session-at-once

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Session-At-Once (SAO) is a disc-at-once recording method for CDs and DVDs in which a session is written without switching off or readjusting the laser. A so-called B0 pointer can be set in SAO mode . Then the medium is not closed and you can add further sessions.

A session contains one or more audio or data tracks. Audio players can only read the first session, which is why several sessions ( called multisession ) are often used in the audio area to accommodate bonus material. This is often used with CD-Extra .

In SAO mode, similar to RAW mode, up to 96 bytes of subchannel data can be written. In contrast to the RAW mode, however, it is not possible to duplicate manipulated TOCs , digital signatures and sometimes subchannel-based copying mechanisms or to influence the content of the P or Q subchannel.

SAO modes:

  • RAW SAO - writes data uncorrected as "audio sectors", but does not handle sub-channels.
  • RAW SAO 96 - allows writing of 96bit RW subchannel data. However, the mode is not the same as RAW-96P or RAW-96R because data is generated in the burner.
