The Sethe'sche Fräuleinstift for unmarried fatherless daughters (Sethestift) is a foundation based in Aurich .

history

The Sethestift was founded on December 14, 1858 by the lawyer and secret councilor Christian Sethe (1778–1864) and his wife Charlotte, b. Heßlingh (1785–1858), erected ( Lower Saxony State Archives , Rep. 220/23). The purpose of the foundation is to support the group of people specified in Articles 6, 7, 9 and 10 of the founder's will of April 17, 1844. Subordinate single women, including widows , from Aurich and subordinate from the rest of East Friesland , whose deceased fathers or husbands were neither academics nor officers, are supported by granting a free apartment and a quarterly payment , if the provisions in Section 53 No. 2 of the Tax Code fixed income limits are not exceeded.

In the early 1930s, the Aurich Stiftsmühle was threatened with demolition . Thanks to the takeover by the Sethe'sche Fräuleinstift - hence the name Stiftsmühle - the second largest grain windmill in East Frisia, 28 meters high, was saved. The Stiftsmühle is one of five former Aurich town mills. It has held the location since 1731 and has had its current form since 1858. In 1969 the commercial use had to be stopped due to lack of profitability. In 1977 she took over the Aurich homeland club. It was renovated in 1997 and 2000 to 2002.

The Sethestift is still known today in East Friesland, the Stiftsmühle is a listed building and is a landmark of the city of Aurich .
