The Setonaikai National Park ( Japanese 瀬 戸 内海 国立 公園 , Setonaikai Kokuritsu Kōen ) was opened on March 16, 1934 together with the Unzen Amakusa National Park and the Kirishima Kinkōwan National Park as the first national parks in Japan. The park includes around 3000 islands with the Seto Inland Sea ( Seto-naikai ).
Flora and fauna
The numerous islands of the national park are home to a variety of animal and plant species, including:
- Japanese red pines ( Pinus densiflora )
- Rhododendrons : Rhododendron reticulatum
- Mock chestnuts ( Castanopsis )
- Japanese oak
- Quercus serrata
- Quercus phillyraeoides
- Alveopora japonica
