Seven Nautical Miles is a post-metal band formed in 2005 .
history
Seven Nautical Miles were founded by the drummer Johan Nordlund and the guitarist Simon Wärja, who played together in the thrash metal band Machinery of Suffering. Both parted ways with Machinery of Suffering because the music played no longer conveyed sufficient emotional expression. The band wrote their first songs with second guitarist Mikael Holmberg, bassist Robert Holmström and singer Dag Falkman, performed together and released a demo tape under the band name Oceans Have No Memory.
Falkman left the group shortly afterwards. Mathias Öystilä, who also brought a synthesizer to the group, took his place. Henrik Nyström was hired for the band because of the desire to bring in a third guitarist. With this line-up, the group changed their name to Seven Nautical Miles and signed a contract with the British label Sound Devastation Records , where the debut album Every Ocean Reversed, mastered by Magnus Lindberg from Cult of Luna , was released in 2008. Pierre Johansson from Breach was responsible for the design of the sound carrier . The album was hardly received internationally and received differently by reviewers. The assessments varied from “bad but tried” to the assessment that the band was “at eye level [...] with the well-known greats of post-metal and post-rock ”. Following the release, the band went on some tours and concerts, mostly in Finland, Norway and Sweden. All official activities of the band have been suspended since 2012.
style
The music played by Seven Nautical Miles is classified as post-metal. The pieces are described as "driving" and "epic". The singing is received differently by critics. He is criticized as "badly practiced screamo singing" or praised as "haunting". The instrumentation is mainly related to post-rock and post-metal. Other influences are Doom Metal , Sludge and Ambient .
