history

Seznam's founder, Ivo Lukačovič, founded the company in 1996. Since then, a dog has served as a distinguishing feature and mascot. First, Lukačovič introduced an online directory of his favorite Czech sites, after which the number of hits increased and the site became very popular. The founder decided to place the first advertisements on the site to finance his hobby. Lukačovič's friend, Pavel Zima, knew a lot about computers and thus helped keep the servers running smoothly. A Swedish venture capitalist later acted as financial supporter, but was unable to secure a majority in Seznam after the burst internet bubble .

In 2007 Seznam allied itself with the previous competitor Atlas.cz in order to secure market share and to become stronger.
