A rope dart is thrown

A Sheng Biao ( Chinese  繩鏢  /  绳镖 , Pinyin Shengbiao  - "rope throwing iron, rope peer") is a flexible weapon with Chinese origin. The English translations rope dart and rope javelin can be found internationally . In Japan the weapon is known as jōhyō .

While it is similar to other flexible weapons, such as the meteor hammer , there are some unique techniques.

It consists of a usually 3–5 m long rope with metal rings at the end that fix the tip. In addition, a flag can be attached to the rings, which can be used for demonstration purposes as well as to confuse the opponent through sounds and visual stimuli. It also removes the opponent's blood from the tip and stabilizes movements. The weapon can be used in many ways, for example for choking, shackling, disarming or striking. Since the tip is connected to a rope, it can be thrown and then pulled back on the rope so that it can be used again quickly. Since the great length of the rope makes the typical swinging movements much more difficult, it is usually wrapped around various joints, most often the hand, so that the range of the weapon can be increased if necessary, but the excess length is retained.

The weapon became known primarily through its use in Kung Fu films and its appearance in Assassin's Creed games.
