Shahin Charmi (born September 17, 1953 in what is now Iran ) is a media artist. He lives in Kiel .

Shahin Charmi was born in Iran in 1953. From 1980 to 1985 he studied free art and painting at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel. He works as a painter, media and action artist in Germany, Austria and Iran. From 1987 to 1989 he was in charge of the “Design of Public Facades” project. In this project he realized the work “ Revolution and War ” on the facade of the Iltis bunker in Kiel.

In 1990 Charmi received the first prize in the international computer art competition "Golden Plotter", Museum Gladbeck. In 1992 he completed a two-year pedagogical training course at the Waldorf Teachers' Seminar in Kiel and, in addition to his artistic activity, sometimes taught art at the Free Waldorf Schools in Kiel and Linz. From 2008 to 2011 he realized sets for three plays by the Iranian director Pari Saberi. Charmi's work has been featured in various regional, national and international festivals and exhibitions such as the retrospective "40 Years of BBK Schleswig-Holstein", Videonale Bonn, Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in Canada and Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran, Iran.

Awards

  • 1990: 1st prize winner of the “Golden Plotter 1990” competition at the Gladbeck Museum.
