Shoku Nihon Kōki

The Shoku Nihon Kōki ( Japanese 続 日本 後 紀 , dt. "Continuation of the later annals of Japan") is an official chronicle of Japan for the years 833 to 850. It is the fourth part of the six official empire stories ( Rikkokushi ) and comprises 20 Fascicle. Fujiwara no Yoshifusa and Haruzumi no Yoshitada are considered the editors of Shoku Nihon Kōki .

overview

The compilation of this chronicle began in 855 by order of Tennō Montoku . As a continuation of Nihon Kōki , it covers the reign of his father, the Tennō Nimmyō . The chronicle was completed in 869.

The text, written in Classical Chinese , covers the period of 18 years between 833 and 850. It is the first chronicle to record the rule of only one Tennō. It also describes the events of the Jōwa uprising in 842 ( 承 和 の 変 , Jōwa no Hen ). The compilation was done by Fujiwara no Yoshifusa, Tomo no Yoshio , Haruzumi no Yoshitada and Yasuno no Toyomichi. The oldest surviving parts of the text come from the Hōen period (1135–1141).
